Telegram Launches Gram Wallet to Select Users Planning Wider Rollout

On Monday, August 31st, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced that the social media giant telegram is starting the rollout of its Gram wallet to a select group of users. The CEO announced that the network targets to roll the wallet out gradually in the next few weeks targeting over $1 billion users.

In a post on Telegram, Pavel said:

“Gram Wallet in Telegram is ready and is now accessible to a select group of users.  We’ll be gradually rolling it out to our billion+ users over the next couple of weeks.”

The CEO went ahead to thank validators for their big role in approving the smart contracts which will power the entire ecosystem. Hence,  any future upgrades will be seamless since it will not demand that users migrate to entirely new wallet contracts.

As per the CEO the new development stands just among the many innovations designed to make non-custodial wallets usable. Pavel’s Telegram post gained over 400K viewers in only a few hours. Following Durov’s announcement, Toncoin’s native token GRAM surged from a mere $1.33 to $1.43, a gain of over 6.7% in mere minutes.

Gram Wallet rollout comes just a few weeks after the Telegram CEO announced the plans to release the wallet across all its apps. On July 21, the Telegram Chief Executive said that “this summer will see” the greatest ever rollout of a non-custodial wallet. The primary features were instant zero fee cryptocurrency transactions for over 1 billion users.

Following these developments, another wallet in Telegram has rebranded to Walt, but will still function within The Open Platform (TOP), and remain connected to GRAM. While the Gram wallet will be the default wallet focusing on transfers, payments and general purchases within Telegram, Walt will offer trading and investing support.
